Why this doesn't slow the page down

• The photo loads first. The page paints with a still frame (118 KB on desktop, 52 KB on phones), so Google's speed score is measured on the photo, not the video.
• The video waits. It isn't requested at all until the page has fully loaded, then it fades in over the photo.
• It's small. One 19-second loop (North Valley aerial → desert golf → golfers on the tee → a couple dining outdoors → a goldendoodle), 1280 pixels wide, no sound: about 1.5 MB.
• Phones get their own lighter version. A vertical cut (about 0.8 MB) so the golfers, the couple and the doodle stay in frame, with a darker overlay so the words stay easy to read. It also waits until the page has loaded.
• Skipped when it should be. No video on "data saver", slow connections, or for people who turn off motion in their settings. They just see the photo.
• Pause button for accessibility, like the site you sent.
